Island of a Thousand Mirrors

Upon looking at the writer, Nayomi Munaweera, is a Sri Lankan American writer who won Commonwealth Book Prize for Asian Region in 2013. Her work “Island of a Thousand Mirrors” gave her a break in her career and got published in South Asia in 2012. Her book was a real life turning and a picture of yesterday’s beginnings. It was devastating, tender and beautifully written. It is a story of two different families with different beliefs and culture. A story that full of sacrifices, vulnerability, life issues, survival, and bravery. It's truly a masterpiece of civil war and a mirror of reality.

There is a pack of different issues appeared to this book. The clash of two families, civil war, the arranged marriages, simple people who're in the middle of two families, and a storied family trying to escape moving to America. It is entertaining and beautifully described by the author.

Every part of the story was a magnificent and well written by the author. To be honest I had a hard time reading this book. It is how the author used deep words and how the author described the characters and events were so fluent that it made powerful and brilliant. Some of this partly happened back in ancient times maybe in Sri Lanka or some history of the world. Some maybe still ongoing but in a different way, the culture and the tradition are slowly changing but the pass will forever be marked.

I highly recommend this book. This book will surely won’t make your time wasted but will accompany you to wherever you are. Truly a masterpiece and excellently written.
